Paragliding in La Jolla

While in San Diego we visited the Torrey Pines Gliderport in La Jolla. The original plan was to watch David and 72-year-old Angie jump off cliffs, but we soon decided we needed to jump off as well.  We signed the necessary waivers and in a few minutes we were strapped in and heading over a cliff. It was really an amazing experience. There are more photos on my Flickr page.

This is Mike taking off.

This is Denise gliding above us. She was one of the last riders for the day and got a great ride.

And this is me coming in for a landing. If you’re ever in the San Diego area, I’d recommend giving it a shot.

Under Surveillance – Opening Thursday, September 18

I’m really happy to be included in this – stop out if you can.

Under Surveillance
September 17 – October 8, 2008
Opening Reception, Thursday, September 18, 6-9 pm
Nevin Kelly Gallery | 1517 U Street NW | WDC

Artists include: Sondra N. Arkin, Scott G. Brooks, Groover Cleveland, Richard Dana, Anna U. Davis, Aziza Claudia Gibson-Hunter, Rosemary Luckett, Elizabeth Morisette, Ann Stoddard, Tim Tate, Ruth Trevarrow, Ellyn Weiss

For some time we have watched with concern, anger, even fear, as the area of personal privacy available to each of us shrinks due to the technology and the license now given both to the government and private corporations to watch and listen to us. Under Surveillance presents the responses of twelve very different artists to this fact. Curated by Ellyn Weiss and Sondra N. Arkin.

Here’s my painting for the show…

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School This Sunday

I hope everyone can stop out for this!

My friend, the Honorable Reverend Loveseat, will be hosting the latest installment of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School this coming Sunday, August 17th. It will be held at the Palace of Wonders, 1210 H Street NE, starting at 7:30.

For those of you not familiar with the concept, Dr. Sketchy’s is basically a figure drawing class, but at a bar, with burlesque dancers. (It was started by Molly Crabapple, and you can get a good idea of the worldwide movement that it has become here.

The Reverend will have all sorts of odd art competitions as well as drinking games and other challenges. The models will be the lovely L’il Dutch, and Sugar Ann Spice. Both were featured in the Washington Post a few weeks back. It should be a night to remember.

See you there.
