“Murder of Mother Goose”

“Murder of Mother Goose” #tbt ’95 – Paintings are meant to sell, but this one has been with me a long time and I’m sad to see it go. It was first exhibited as part of a John Waters tribute show in DC – and was just acquired by a collector in Texas.

I painted it at the height of the AIDS crisis, and I had already lost many friends. I had also just moved to Washington, DC from Michigan and dealing with my first relationship and living in a big city. What better way to express the loss of innocence than by killing Mother Goose?
