Katrina Relief

And I don’t mean turning the TV off. Watching events unfold over the course of a week reminds me of the days following 9-11. Very sad and angry.

I think we all had this false sense of security that if something catastrophic happened one of these organizations would be there. Obviously it’s going to be every man, woman, child, and baby for themself. It won’t help people down south this time but hopefully the uproar over mismanagement will change things for the better next time.

Kudos to the artists auctioning/selling their work for Katrina relief. They’ve already raised a good amount. Lenny has a good handle on things, as well as Solarize This. Support where and when you can. I gave to the Red Cross, it was very quick and simple online.

Jumping Through Hoops Update

I met with Elyse on Monday and we selected 17 new drawings. Most of them were either finished or close to it, so it wasn’t a problem picking out what will work for the show. It was interesting to see everything laid out together, that’s not something I would do. All the work is similar in color and theme, but much more is happening than in the Virtues and Sins series.

Yesterday, I took 7 pieces over to Chevy Chase Gallery to get framed. The rest will be finished this week or next. What a relief it will be to have everything done a few weeks early. I thought I might frame a few myself but instead will let Jackie take care of it. The frames we went with are a mix of old and new, which is perfect for the art. It is a luxury to let someone else deal with it.

I’ll be adding a section about the show to my website soon and will post details and images there. In the meantime, here’s a finished one I can share.

Busboys and Poets

This sounds great – and just a block up the street from me.

From their website “Busboys & Poets is Washington’s newest gathering place, with a full service bar, restaurant, Free WiFi coffee house, bookstore and a fully equipped performance stage. Busboys & Poets serves American cuisine with an eclectic twist, including many vegetarian and vegan options.”

I first read about this on Metrocurean. Amanda puts up some great info about new places opening up the around DC area.
